GRP has long been used for manufacturing garage doors because of its strength and relatively lightweight composition. It can be moulded into wood effect designs of smooth flat high gloss finishes like you would see on a boat.
As a pair of side hinged doors you get a fully finished set of doors with a steel box section powdercoated sub frame and never have to really worry about any maintenance at all, just an occasional clean.
These particular GRP doors are manufactured in a steel box section chassis where the overall strength and stability comes from for the finished article. Combined with the steel sub frame which is all galvanised and powder coated you genuinely have nothing to finish or paint.

Price
Expect to pay between £3,500 and £4,000 inc. VAT for a pair of GRP composite side hinged doors including the fixing sub frame, a choice of finishes and styles and all the furniture and locking required. A fit and forget installation.
We offer 4 different and traditional designs, panelled, vertical boarded and traditional window period design all in a range of standard sizes but also made to measure for a small additional surcharge.
EXTRAS: Change of leading leaf to the left hand door, aluminium handles, and any additional cladding or trimming will add some cost to the overall price. You can also have the outer frame in a RAL colour other than the standard white or brown offered. Floor seals are another popular accessory.
Always be aware of exactly what you are gettings s a quoted finished job to compare like for like.

COLOURS AND FINISHES
The colour in GRP doors is mixed into the initial gel coating and a final finish is applied when it is a woodgrain type effect on the face for the graining effects.
There are 18 standard finishes for the GRP composite doors we offer. 2 of these have a surcharge as a solid and special colour finish.
SECURITY
The security is average on these doors with a lever/lever handle set and euro profile cylinder locking operating a deadlock. The locking is built into the steel chassis so it is steel against steel where the locking is situated.
EASE OF USE
It really does not get much easier than a pair of side hinged doors with the biggest enemy perhaps being strong winds but we always include door stays on heavy side hinged doors unless you need extended opening past 90 degrees.
Side hinged doors can be made automatic using a simple adaptation of a boom type electric operator for the doors to be pushed and pulled open and closed at high level.

Side hinged doors are about as traditional as it gets for a door type and are perfect for so many garages where access is not required very often but when it is it is usually on foot.
We have seen a resurgence over the last 10 -15 years for side hinged garage doors and it is mainly down to the change in use for a lot of garages in the UK.
Obviously side hinged doors are only really suitable for single width garages up to about 9 feet wide but that is most garages covered anyway.
GRP composite doors certainly offer a very low maintenance solution with a range of styles which would be far greater price if they were real timber. They are a good option for sure. All the aesthetics of a timber door but with less cost and no maintenance.
