A steel garage door is far more serious than any single door in terms of weight and stability, but a one-piece pressed steel single up and over door is still a good choice if your needs are simple in terms of performance. Many styles are generally available, but this example is for a simple vertical or horizontal design.
When we say ‘basic’ up and over door, we are referring to the simpler designs in standard colour finishes with no design or window options. All the up and over doors we provide are of the highest quality and manufactured to the highest standard, despite them being basic in their colour and design.
This category for a price range refers to a fully retractable operating mechanism with a standard white finish. It includes all the hardware required as well as a steel box section outer fixing frame to replace any timber frame used, providing a better overall operation and a 10 year guarantee.

This price is referring to the UK standard sizes, which are around 12 sizes generally, before they are considered a door and a half width.
EXTRAS: Details such as trimming around the door frame, weatherseals on the ground, and upgrades on the locking will push the price up slightly.
Always be aware of exactly what you are getting as a finished job to compare like for like.
Our basic designs in ribbed variations still include a 2 point rod locking system (not inferior cable locking). They also nearly always have the strong box section steel fixing sub frame to ensure no timber is used and the door operates in the tightest possible tolerances.

COLOURS AND FINISHES
For this price example we are offering only the white finish, but often there are some other colours given at the same price as white. Brown or Anthracite are popular options that will be available at no extra cost or very low priced. Other colours such as black, blue or various greys will add around £140.
SECURITY
The basic locking on a manual steel canopy up and over door is a 2 point bottom latch steel rod and slam latch locking system with the handle locked via a euro profile cylinder. Combined with the robust galvanized steel outer box section fixing frame, the basic security is actually quite good.
You can specify 4 point locking on most doors, and this gives locking at each critical point for a forced entry attempt. This will add around £75.
EASE OF USE
Being a manual door, it is operated by simply grabbing the handle and turning to unlatch, and then lifting the door panel. This is assisted by a torsion spring to help in lifting the door panel up and down. Adjusted properly, it is reasonably easy to operate but certainly a tougher operation if you have any kind of shoulder or back issue.

To close off a single width garage opening you are far better off buying a good quality, manual steel up and over rather than a very cheap electric roller door of questionable quality and reliability.
The up and over door will usually last many years with no issues at all; maintenance is minimal. Manufacturers such as Hormann and Garador make the very best up and over steel doors for the UK, with high quality galvanized and zinc plated components for durability and confidence in the overall integrity.
Always try to buy an up and over door with the steel box section fixing sub frame as it will give a far better overall package and better security and weather protection.
