GDO ROLL 77 Electric Roller Garage Door Range
When you are looking for superior strength, enhanced security, and the best thermal insulation for your garage, the GDO ROLL 77 is the definitive choice. Unlike compact 55mm models, the ROLL 77 uses standard 77mm deep double skinned aluminium slats with a thicker foam filled core. This heavier profile creates a much stronger curtain that is highly resistant to wind deflection and provides excellent acoustic and thermal insulation.
Manufactured to your exact millimetre measurements up to an impressive 5200mm wide, every ROLL 77 door is built in the UK using top tier components. To suit every type of garage and household requirement, we offer this flagship door in three distinct control formats.
GDO ROLL 77 Push Button Control
The push button model is our most straightforward, robust, and cost effective option. It uses a simple hold to run internal wall mounted rocker switch, making it incredibly reliable because there are no complex electronics, remotes, or sensitive safety edges to maintain.
-
Best for: Integral garages, workshops, and outbuildings where you always enter on foot.
-
How it works: You simply press and hold the button until the door is fully open or closed. If you let go, the door stops instantly.
-
The benefit: You get the premium 77mm insulated aluminium curtain and high quality motor at an exceptionally competitive price point.
GDO ROLL 77 Auto Smart Key and Button Control
The Auto Smart version bridges the gap between basic button control and full remote operation. It provides an internal wall mounted control panel alongside an external key switch, giving you secure access from both inside and outside the garage without relying on remote handsets.
-
Best for: Shared garages, commercial units, or domestic setups where multiple people need access but you do not want the expense of buying multiple remote controls.
-
How it works: It features a semi automatic impulse to open function (just press once to open), combined with a secure hold to run closing operation.
-
The benefit: It offers hard wired, highly secure external access using a physical key, which is often preferred for standalone garages or security conscious homeowners.
GDO ROLL 77 Somfy Remote Control
The premium Somfy remote control model is the ultimate automated setup. Equipped as standard with the world renowned Somfy Rollixo Optimo control system, this version is designed for effortless driveway access and modern smart home compatibility.
-
Best for: Homeowners who use their garage daily for parking, or those who want the absolute maximum convenience when arriving home in the rain.
-
How it works: Fully automated operation using the two supplied remote handsets or the internal wireless wall switch. Because it operates remotely, the heavy duty rubber bottom seal incorporates an optical safety edge that instantly stops the door if it touches an obstacle.
-
The benefit: Flawless daily operation backed by a comprehensive 5 year Somfy warranty, plus the ability to connect to the Somfy TaHoma smart home hub in the future.
Key ROLL 77 Specifications and Clearances
Because the ROLL 77 uses thicker slats, the physical components require slightly more room than smaller compact doors. Please keep these key dimensions in mind when planning your installation:
-
Headroom Required: The 77mm curtain requires 300mm of clear headroom to accommodate the roll and endplates (this is larger than the 205mm required for compact doors).
-
Guide Rails: Doors up to 3000mm wide are supplied with 75mm wide side guides. Doors over 3000mm wide (up to the maximum 5200mm) are supplied with heavy duty 90mm wide side guides to ensure stability.
-
Maximum Dimensions: The door can be ordered up to 5200mm wide (including the guides) and up to 2900mm in guide height.
-
Hood Options: The ROLL 77 can be specified with no hood (perfect if the roll is hidden completely behind your lintel), a half hood facia, or a fully enclosed full hood box for maximum weather protection.
Every GDO ROLL 77 includes an internal emergency manual override winding handle as standard to ensure you can always operate the door during a power cut. If your garage has no other pedestrian entrance, you must add the low level external manual release option to your order.

Why Choose the GDO ROLL 77 Electric Roller Door?
When deciding on the right garage door for your home, the GDO ROLL 77 stands out as the ultimate choice for strength, insulation, and reliability. Upgrading to the standard 77mm slat profile gives you a noticeably more robust door compared to the smaller compact models, making it the ideal solution for larger garages or homeowners who simply want the best possible protection for their property.
Here is why the GDO ROLL 77 is consistently one of our most highly recommended roller doors:
-
Superior Strength and Security: The 77mm deep double skinned aluminium slats create a rigid, highly secure curtain. It is significantly more resistant to wind deflection and forced entry than thinner compact doors, giving you complete peace of mind.
-
Maximum Thermal Insulation: Because the slats are thicker, they contain a much denser foam filled core. If your garage is attached to your house, or you use it as a workshop or home gym, this door provides exceptional thermal insulation to keep the space warm in winter and cool in summer.
-
Excellent Acoustic Dampening: The dense foam core and heavy duty brush seals in the guide rails significantly reduce noise transmission. This is perfect if you live on a busy road or want to keep the noise of your hobby inside the garage.
-
Versatile Sizing: Thanks to the strength of the 77mm slats and the heavy duty barrel mechanism, this door can be manufactured to fit massive openings up to 5200mm wide, making it perfect for large double garages.
-
Tailored Control Options: You are not locked into one expensive operating system. You can choose the simple internal push button model, the secure external key switch version, or the premium Somfy remote control system to perfectly match how you use your garage.
-
Exceptional UK Build Quality: Manufactured entirely in the UK by SWS AlluGuard, every component from the sturdy locking straps to the extruded aluminium guide rails is built to withstand heavy daily use.
If you have the 300mm of headroom required to accommodate the roller box, the GDO ROLL 77 represents the definitive upgrade for your home, combining unbeatable security with premium daily convenience.

The GDO ROLL 77 is constructed from high quality 77mm deep double skinned aluminium slats with a foam filled core. It is a made to measure, electric operated roller garage door as standard, manufactured to the exact millimetre in width and height.

The door is electrically operated as standard and incorporates an internal emergency manual release in case of a power failure. This is a winding process using a winding handle provided attaching via a hook to the eye of the motor drive. This can be specified as either on the left or right as viewed from inside the garage.
The curtain of this door rolls around a steel barrel which is supported either side by steel endplates which have a dimension of 300mm x 300mm, which is the headroom required if you wish to hide the roll. Always allow for a maximum 50mm of curtain hang down when the door is opened if the opening height is critical to you. This is the same on all roller garage doors.

Door guides either side are either 70mm or 90mm wide and 34mm deep. The door is ordered using the OVERGUIDE width which is the total width of the curtain and guides combined.
The door can be fitted BEHIND or INBETWEEN the structural opening as required, but always check you have ordered the correct dimensions to take into account the guides and endplates (a full hood cover if ordered is the exact same dimensions).
Ordering size is the Over Guide Width (OGW) x Guide Height (GH).
For Doors up to 3000mm wide (Supplied with 70mm wide guides either side):
Clear opening width = Ordering size minus 140mm
Clear opening height = Guide height minus 50mm (to allow for the bottom slat hang down when open)
For Doors over 3000mm wide (Supplied with 90mm wide guides either side):
Clear opening width = Ordering size minus 180mm
Clear opening height = Guide height minus 50mm (to allow for the bottom slat hang down when open)
Maximum Width including guides is 5200mm
Maximum Height for guides is 2900mm (Total height of 3200mm with the endplates and hood) subject to a maximum width of 4600mm.
