Sectional garage doors offer all the benefits of a roller door with the vertical operation but give even better weathersealing properties and have greater strength generally even in the single skin models.
Usually they are installed to the inside face of the structural opening as the door rises in opening and the tracks and increase in height has to be accommodated behind the lintel not underneath.

Price

Expect to pay between £850 and £1050 inc. VAT installed for a steel sectional door in a ribbed woodgrain design like the LTE40 S or M Ribbed in a white finish and about £100 more for the Georgian design.

Replacing an existing up and over garage door that is one of the old standard sizes of either 7’ x 6’6” or 7’ x 7’ is one of the most common installations carried out but with a sectional door the door generally fits to the rear of the structural opening so the door size is usually wider and higher once the existing door frame is also removed. The price above is based on 6 standard sizes of very similar price to accomodate this size variation and is based on an installation behind the structural opening.

Additional Costs

Other sizes
The single size for a sectional door is up to 10'0" (3048mm) wide and this will add about an extra £200 on the price at this maximum single size width. Metric European and purpose made sizes for sectional doors can add more cost and higher doors will take longer to install.

Handle sets
The standard handle used is black nylon but many optional brass, chrome, stainless steel and other handles are available at extra cost for the sectional doors and are between £80 and £180

Colours
The Hormann LTE 40 range of single skin doors can be factory finished in a choice of 16 standard colours other than white and this will cost about £100 extra

Finishing to the Exposed Brickwork
More often than not when a timber sib frame is removed after many years the brickwork behind can be very rough and is covered in PVC or timber cladding to finish the installation. Price varies a lot for this depending on size and colour required.

Inbetween Installation
Fitting any sectional garage door inbetween a structural opening can add considerable costs but is quite common for maximising length in the garage or because there are no piers or internal faces to fit to.
Expect a minimum increase of £150 and maybe up to £450 if matching trims are required for the frame to match or contrast the door panels.

Remote Control Electric Operation
Allow between £350 - £450 for a good quality European manufactured electric operator model with 2 transmitters and appropriate safety mechanisms. (This assumes the operator is being fitted at the same time as the door for the price)
Many accessories are now available to control the electric operator including the light built in and other external lighting if required. It is worth checking what is available to ensure you can upgrade at a later date if necessary.
