Q:Are sub frames different on side hinged garage doors?

Generally is specified correctly yes they are with a rebated edge included for the best seal possible when closed.
For the majority of steel, GRP timber and double skinned insulated steel side hinged doors we sell the fixing sub frames have a rebated edge to act as a stop when the door leaf is closed enabling the best possible seal between the panel and the frame just like you would see on your front door frame, quite often with a weatherseal also built in.
If you do not have this edge then you would have a nasty gap around the door panels and the panels also could be a bit rattly depending on the hinges used. Always make sure you buy side hinged doors with a rebated frame whether it be in steel, aluminium or timber and preferably with a weatherseal built in too.
Our hinged pedestrian side doors also have this feature for the very best sealing and security.
