A double width double skinned aluminium roller garage door is a serious consideration because the stresses and strains on a roller garage door components are far greater than any other garage door type available. Each curtain lath section is connected to the next and when lifted up and done there is all the weight involved straining on each section and the barrel and connecting straps to. All these stresses are far more on a double width door and it is imperative the double width roller door is a tested, certified and compliant product not only for peace of mind on safety but generally just to be confident it will last and perform well.
These doors are made to measure as standard on the width, and the standard hight is around 2.2m in the UK.

Each aluminium roller garage door we offer is made to measure to the millimetre and either fits behind, in-between of in front of the brickwork opening. Most roller doors will fit to the inside face of the brickwork to maximise the garage opening and neatly hide all the guides and other working parts from the outside. For an inbetween fit you will need quite a high lintel as you will lose around 350mm of headroom with the curtain roll and endplates. for an external fit you just need to make sure you have the full hood cover and other aspects for security purposes specified correctly.

Expect to pay between around £2,800 and £3,400 inc. VAT installed for a one off installation of a double width roller garage door with a choice of finished colours.
Enhancements such as full hood covers, trimming around the door frame, additional weather seals on the floor and upgrades on the guides, security and controls will push the price up slightly and you should always be very aware of exactly what you are getting as a finished job to compare like for like against others.

This is inexpensive and opens up a whole world of other options around your home for convenience, security and peace of mind when unoccupied. They have a background from the 1980’s in manufacturing aluminium security shutters and their original ‘Classic’ roller garage door was one of the first in the UK and now arguably all others are either lesser copies or have adopted a different build.
We have been selling roller shutter garage doors for well over 30 years now and if you definitely want a roller door then you are advised to do some serious homework, because on the face of it they will all look the same, but they really are definitely not.
Manufactured from many individual components, many of which connect to each other and move with each other, any inferior parts will manifest in a non functioning door very quickly, particularly the larger the door width or height is the greater the risks. The electric motor drive on a tubular motor driven roller door for a start cannot be seen, along with the internal barrel and anti fall back device so how do you know if it is any good and up to the job? The aluminium foam filled curtains vary massively in quality and strength and are of course the main comment seen on the door, so any inferior curtain will look second hand within months, often with paint damage and curtain connections not aligned properly.
The single width size is generally between about 4.2m and 4.6m on a standard UK size double width garage. These doors are made to measure as standard on the width and the height with a standard height being around 2.2m in the UK.

Security
This is one of the biggest misunderstood areas for a roller garage door as in effect all roller doors simply act like a drawbridge and open and close using the basic forces of gravity. When a roller door is closed what actually holds it closed if someone decided to try and lift it? The answer is that on most roller garage doors there is nothing really at all!!
Most of the aluminium roller doors we offer have a locking system built onto the barrel which lifts the curtain and a system will hold the curtain closed against attempted force. The Seceuroglide Classic and Excel both use a patented steel tooth locking system for holding the curtain firmly in place and the Excel version has a certification to prove its worthiness in a third party testing.
Colour
For this price example we are using one of the standard 16 solid colour options available.
There are several woodgrain laminate foil options also available at a small surcharge along with options to match specific special colour ranges and also a wider range of Renolit laminate foil finishes.
You certainly will find a colour to work within the range offered on our aluminium roller doors.
Ease of Use
With the standard electric operator option all you have to do is press a button either on one of the 2 hand transmitters supplied or the wall mounted control station which sits inside your garage with a built in courtesy light also built in. If there is a power cut then you have to enter the garage by another door and release the motor drive to operate the door manually which will be quite effortless.
If there is no other access then there is a release mechanism which is attached to the handle or drilled into the panel as a key release mechanism with cable attachment.
OUR VIEW: from 35 years of experience...
We always think when it comes to the obsessions with roller garage doors in the UK why do more people not take a look at the sectional overhead door, and this is true especially on the larger width doors. For value for money the sectional door will win on every point going and the only thing that seems to worry people are the tracks, but the tracks are nearly always higher than the door height and out of the way so not really a problem anyway.
If you are going to buy an electric roller garage door, and a double width size and also want some insulating properties and the aluminium curtain then please make sure you do a lot of research, because as mentioned already, they do tend to all look the same in a picture. If you could see internally and understand the massive difference in component relevance in a product which has so many moving parts all under stress then you would perhaps see how an inferior, cheap roller garage is the worst type of garage door and you will probably curse the day you decided to buy it.
A good roller garage door (and they do exist!) will have been tested over many years by the manufacturer and have all the issues ironed out.
A good electric roller garage door will have a genuine 5 year minimum guarantee and third party certification for compliance and quality with some also achieving security ratings too. A good electric insulated double width roller garage door will cost you between £2,800 and £3,400 for a single size and that is the same anywhere around the UK.
