A side sliding sectional is a round the corner type door but made up of several larger individual panels constructed in various ways depending on your choice and with a slight variance in size depending on the overall dimensions. The side sliding doors (SSD) we offer can be manufactured in many different timber species, including European Oak, Larch, Idigbo, Iroko, Cedar, Superior Spruce amongst others.
The door will slide across sideways and open internally down one of the garage walls (or both if bi parting) and offer full width and height for your drive through dimensions if you have sufficient internal space. They require minimum headroom for the top tracking and are always very quiet in their operation as well as offering partial opening function for pedestrian access in and out.

Timber Side Sliding Sectional Garage Door

Timber Side Sliding Sectional Garage Door

A round the corner garage door has an effortless operation with minimal contacting parts and as a door will last a very long time indeed as it does not have the stresses and strains of a roller or up and over door mechanism.

A lot of people say they do not want to lose one wall in the garage but we have found that those with this type of door will appreciate the fact it makes you keep your garage tidy and clean. We have seen customers add a false wall where the sliding door curtain disappears behind, so this is an option if you really cannot do without one wall in your garage.

Every round the corner garage door we offer is made to measure to the millimeter and this type of door will only ever fit behind the garage opening as it requires a space internally for the curve of the tracking on one side and on the other a small return for the keep of the leading panel edge. Minimum headroom is required and the bottom track is surface mounted to the floor offering a weather bar as well as the guide for the bottom of the door.

Price

Expect to pay between £14,000 and £19,400 inc. VAT installed for a one off installation of a manually operated door in a choice of factory finished timber preservatives. The doors are either manual or remote control electric operated as with 2 hand held remote handsets as standard control method. There is always an internal manual release in case of a power failure to enable manual operation.

The doors are all made to measure as standard for a perfect fit. A level floor is essential for the operation of this door. Electric operation will add between £750 to £1,500 to the door price depending on whether you have a wall mounted electric motor drive or a rack and pinion door motor mounted at the leading edge on the first panel of the door at high level. We have been selling round the corner garage doors for over 30 years now and as far as we know every door is still fully operational because of their stress free operation and high quality build.

The single width size is generally between about 2.2m and 2.8m on a standard UK size double width garage. These doors are made to measure as standard on the width and the height with a standard height being around 2.2m in the UK.

SECURITY

The security on a timber panelled sectional side sectional door like this is very good as it is like a sectional garage door, but operating on its side. Strong panels made of solid timber, a strong tracking system holding the panels in place and whether it is manual or electric operated the door has a steel locking system and for manual locking euro profile cylinder as standard. The electric operated version of the door uses the motor to hold and lock the door closed.

EASE OF USE

A simple push to one side and this door will slide along effortlessly in its tracking. Be aware however on wider doors there is a certain amount of inertia required to get the door moving and this can be too much for some people.

With the standard electric operator option all you have to do is press a button either on one of the 2 hand transmitters supplied or the wall mounted control station which sits inside your garage with a built in courtesy light.. If there is a power cut then you have to enter the garage by another door and release the motor drive to operate the door manually which will be quite effortless. If there is no other access then there is a release mechanism which is attached to the handle or drilled into the panel as a key release mechanism with cable attachment.

OUR VIEW: from 35 years of experience...

The round the corner (RTC) garage door is one of the oldest types of door mechanism with original doors being made from timber and using furniture from various manufacturers along with a tracking system concreted into the ground. The track was a dust and leaf trap but these days the modern surface mounted tracking does not have this issue and most round the corner doors sold are either steel or aluminium panels or slats.

An RTC door system offers a very reliable and stable door which will last for a very long time whilst offering effortless and reliable operation. It is a door type which can also give you the desirable partial opening for a pedestrian to walk in and out without ever opening the whole door.

This particular panel type sectional round the corner system is very weather resistant and offers a degree of insulation from the double skinned slats. The panels are the same as used in an insulated sectional overhead door so already proven well. Do not dismiss this type of door simply because you think you will lose a wall in the garage. If you cherish the vehicle your park in your garage this door type will help you keep your garage tidy and clean.

They may seem expensive at first glance but it is a very good door system with a long lifespan because of the fairly frictionless movement and lack of stress on any given part. You can also have one door opening one way and another the other way and joining in the middle doubling the potential maximum width possible.
